Frequently Asked Questions

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q. Will my stock seat belts still work?
A. All Brey Krause parts are designed not to interfere with the operation of the stock seat belts.  Multi point harnesses are not to be used for everyday driving.

Q. What modifications need to be made to my car?
A. Brey-Krause parts are designed to mount to existing points in the car. No drilling or cutting required. (Note: Some parts may require modification to a cosmetic cover. These can be replaced if and when the items are removed.)

Q. Do I need an R-9001 or R-9004 tunnel side seat belt kit?
A. The R-9001 is designed to be used with stock seats. The R-9004 is designed to be used with aftermarket seats to allow the harness to come through the side opening in the seat. If necessary, some people use the R-9001 with aftermarket seats to come over the top of the seat.

Q. R-906x Seat mount brackets do not have a place to bolt the lap belt?
A. The R-906x brackets were designed to be used with aftermarket sliders. These sliders have not been approved for seat belt anchoring to the top of the slider whereas stock sliders are.

Q. What are harness guide bars?
A. Harness guide bars properly locate racing shoulder harnesses relative to the driver and transfer the forces to factory-supplied points that are designed to take the load. Harness guides prevent excessive shifting and driver fatigue during the high G loads of cornering and braking. Our bars are easy to install and remove, use only existing holes and mounting points, do not interfere with the factory belts and will not damage the car in any way. Our guide bars are also designed to allow sufficient seat travel/clearance for tall drivers.

Q. Can I Mount My Harnesses Directly To The Bar?
A. Our guide bars are strong, but they are designed to redirect the load not carry it directly. (See harness mount bars to mount directly.) Brey-Krause harness mount bars include all the features of our harness guide bars and go a step further by allowing the driver to mount harnesses directly to the bar. The designs of our harness mount bars are tested and certified to handle the types of forces required by the National Highway Traffic Safety Admin. DOT and SAE J385 Rev. MAR 95, Motor Vehicle Seat Belt Anchorages-Performance Requirements.

Q. What Type Of Harnesses Do I Need?
A. Just about any brand of harness will work well as long as it is FIA or SFI certified. Our distributors can supply what is required. A typical set up that works well is the six-point mount system including: snap in (floor mount) lap and anti-sub strap and wrap mounted shoulder straps with a sternum strap. A sternum strap is strongly recommended when using factory seats.

Q. Do I need an R-9001 or R-9004 tunnel side seat belt kit.
A. The R-9001 is designed to be used with stock seats. The R-9004 is designed to be used with aftermarket seats to allow the harness to come through the side opening in the seat. If necessary, some people use the R-9001 with aftermarket seats to come over the top of the seat.

Q. How Do I Install A Harness Mount In My 996/997 Cabriolet?
A. Model R-1029 fits 996/997 Cabriolet. Main bar attaches to factory seat track hardware and rear outside belt mounts via four support tubes and brackets. Support tubes do not interfere with operation of front seats. Lap belt mounting kits are sold separately.

Q. What Is A Boxster Roll Bar Extension?
A. The roll bar extension was designed for recreational track use and to provide sufficient room to permit the use of driving helmets. Available headroom in the Porsche Boxster is increased by an additional 1 3/4" above the factory roll bar. Protective tape keeps factory surfaces from becoming marred. The roll bar extension does not interfere with operation of the soft or hard top and will fit in the trunk. A Brey-Krause roll bar extension padding kit is available that will not interfere with the top. See part# R-9050.

Q. What Can I Do If I Need More Clearance Than The Roll Bar Extension Provides?
A. With the addition of aftermarket seats and Brey-Krause seat mounting kits 1" - 2" of additional headroom may be gained.

Q. What Are Stainless Steel Strut Tower Braces?
A. Strut tower braces provide extra support to the strut towers by securing both towers together and limiting relative motion. Brey-Krause Strut Tower Braces incorporate high strength precision rod ends for adjustability and perfect fit.

Q. What Are Carbon Fiber Strut Tower Braces?
A. Brey-Krause carbon fiber strut tower braces and carbon fiber upgrade kits include all the features of our stainless steel models and deliver incredible strength to weight properties. Our competition model is designed to clear a fuel cell.

Q. Do Any Of Your Strut Tower Braces Fit Porsche Models 968?
A. No. They will not clear the fuel rail.

Q. What Are Fire Extinguisher Mounts?
A. Most driving events require cars to be equipped with an extinguisher within easy reach of the driver. (Requirements aside, it's a good idea to have a fire extinguisher in an expensive car.) Our mounts locates a 2.5 lb extinguisher in front of the driver or passenger seat.

Q. How Do I Install A Fire Extinguisher Mount In My Porsche?
A. Extinguisher mounts are available for most models. R-2015, R-2016 and R-2017 attach to seat track hardware. R-2016 limits some forward seat travel. Our optional R-2010 adapter extends forward seat travel with R-2016 by 2 ½" for shorter drivers. Model R-2020 mounts to 996/997/Boxster factory seat hardware. Model R-2030 attaches to R-9030 anti-sub belt mount for use in 996/997/Boxster with aftermarket seats and Brey-Krause R-907X series seat mount kits.

Q. Why Don't You Make A Fire Extinguisher That Mounts To A Harness Bar?
A. First, is the possibility of it coming loose in an accident and becoming a missle at head level, better to smash a foot than your head. Second, if the extinguisher is mounted behind you, it is not "readily at hand" when needed. One would have to release the straps, turn around and reach back inside the car.

Q. What Are Camera Mounts?
A. Our camera mounts provide three axis adjustable to properly position camera. A strap helps secure the camera to mount. Models are available to fit Brey-Krause harness bars and the Porsche Boxster factory roll bar.

Q. What Are Seat Brace Kits?

A. Our seat brace kits are engineered to extend the protection of your roll cage to the back of your seat and will fit 1 3/4", 1 5/8" and 1 ½" diameter roll bars. The mounting bracket is secured with bolts through two holes, which are drilled through the roll bar tubing. Once bolted to the roll bar, the seat brace can be adjusted fore, aft, up or down. A weld on mounting bracket option is also available. Holes can be drilled though the seat and padded brace for a bolt connection if necessary.

Q. What Are Lap & Anti-Sub Belt Mounting Kits?
A. Our inside (tunnel) and outside doorsill lap belt mount kits secure snap-in lap belts quickly to factory seat belt mounting points and allows the user to remove and install belts in seconds. Our hardware will not interfere with factory seat belt. Anti-submarine belt mounting hardware is available for use with several popular brands of Sparco and Recaro aftermarket seats in 996/997 and Boxster Porsches. An anti-sub belt mount kit is also available for C/4 Corvettes. For C5 Corvettes and other vehicles see next paragraph.

Q. Is there an anti-submarine strap for use with factory seats?

A. For an anti-sub belt to work properly it has to be located close to the driver's crotch. Using a standard anti-sub belt mount creates a problem with most factory seats because they usually interfere with the position of the strap. Other options are available such as using aftermarket seats designed for use with an anti-sub belt. Some drivers choose to use a Y belt attached to the inside and outside lap belt mounts and sit on the belt. For recreational driving this type of installation works well with factory seats but it is no substitute for a race seat and traditional installation. Use of aftermarket seat belts without an anti-sub strap is not recommended.

Q. What Is Aftermarket Seat Mounting Hardware and how is it used?

A. Brey-Krause seat mounting hardware has been designed to mount Recaro & Sparco (1) piece seats into Porsche chassis with as little adapting as possible. These are Porsche specific parts that allow aftermarket seat sliders (manufactured by Recaro or Sparco) to be mounted to the floor in stock locations. Our side mounts attach seats to the sliders. We have also added hardware to mount GT3 seats to the floor of 996/997's and Boxsters without the use of sliders and hardware to remount GT3 seats 1" lower on factory sliders.

Q. How do I know what seat mounting hardware to purchase?
A. For Porsche Models: (SC, C2, 993) 911'S & 944/968 use R-906X side mount kits.

1. Choose the R-906X series side mount part# for your specific seat.
2. Aftermarket sliders manufactured by Sparco or Recaro (available from our distributors.)
3. If you use Sparco sliders you will also need Brey-Krause part# R-9045 (seat actuating tube.)

Note: For Porsche Boxster/996/997 (2) mounting options are available which use either R-906X or R-907X side mount kits.

Option 1 uses Brey-Krause R-906X series side mounts with aftermarket sliders and requires:
1. Choose the R-906X side mount part# for your specific Sparco or Recaro seat.
2. Aftermarket sliders manufactured by Sparco or Recaro (available from our distributors.)
3. Brey-Krause slider adapters to adapt aftermarket sliders to the floor pan for Boxster or 996/997. Use part# R-9040 for Recaro sliders or R-9041 for Sparco sliders.
4. If you use Sparco sliders you will also need Brey-Krause part# R9045 Seat Actuating Tube.

Advantages:
1. The seat is mounted as low as possible while maintaining fore/aft adjustment.
2. If you have a seat mounted with our products in a (SC, C2, 993) 911'S & 944/968) all you need is our slider adapters to install the seat in a new 996/997 or Boxster.

Disadvantages:
1. Fire extinguisher mount is not available.
2. Inside off road belt mount point is not available.
3. Anti-sub strap mount bar is not available.

*For using the (3) items listed above see Option 2.

Option 2 uses Brey-Krause R-907X series side mounts with Porsche factory non-power sliders and works with the following items:
1. Choose the R-907X side mount part# for your specific Sparco, Recaro or GT3 seat. (Specify driver or passenger side.)
2. Brey-Krause anti-sub strap mount bar Part# R-9030. Does not require drilling.
3. Brey-Krause fire extinguisher mount Part #R-2030 (Attaches to R-9030.)

Advantages:
1. Option 2 will work with our fire extinguisher mount and anti-sub strap mount bar.
2. An inside (tunnel side) off road belt mounting point is included - (located in the side mount bracket.)
3. The GT3 seat will be lowered 1" from the factory position.

Disadvantages:

1. Because the Porsche factory sliders are taller than the Sparco or Recaro aftermarket sliders the seat is mounted 5/8" to ¾" higher than using Option 1.
2. You must have non-power seats to use the factory sliders. If your car is equipped with power seats, you must purchase non-power Porsche factory sliders to use Option 2.

Option 3 uses Brey-Krause R-908X series side mounts to mount seat without sliders and works with the following items:
1. Choose the R-908X side mount part# for your GT3 seat. (For driver's side only.)
2. Brey-Krause anti-sub strap mount bar Part# R-9031. Does not require drilling.

Advantages:
1. Option 3 will work with our anti-sub strap mount bar.
2. An inside (tunnel side) off road belt mounting point is included - (located in the side mount bracket.)
3. This allows GT3 seats to be mounted as low as possible.
4. Provides three position fore/aft adjustment ideal for driver's approximately 6'2" and above.

Disadvantages:
1. Because the sliders are not used routine seat adjustment is limited because the seat no longer slides.
2. The fire extinguisher would need to be mounted to the passenger seat instead of the driver's seat.
3. Seat must be removed fore/aft adjustment.

Q. How much does it cost?
A. Please contact a distributor for pricing.

Q. How soon can I get it?
